Akaroa Radio

Akaroa FM 90.1-90.9 mhz Akaroa FM is a small non commercial radio station broadcasting in the Akaroa area of Banks Peninsula New Zealand. Akaroa FM started off as a tourist information radio broadcasting on low power on public frequencies some years ago. The audio was burnt on to dish and played back on a small disc player twenty four hours a day and repeated every hour. Dave Edwards then applied to the New Zealand government for licensed frequencies and acquired both 90.1 & 90.9 mhz. The radio station studio is at Wainui which is opposite Akaroa, the signal is broadcast across the sea and repeated back to the Hilltop. At the Hilltop the signal is broadcast back towards Akaroa. Akaroa FM is fully automated and uses Station Playlist Studio Software. We have two small Behringer mixers, tape decks and CD players which extra facilities for records and phone calls to plugged straight into the system.
